The Porsche Taycan has been a smash hit, and its sales numbers have backed it up. While many enthusiasts have their doubts about an electric Porsche, Porsche has announced that there will now be an easier way to experience the Taycan. Porsche Passport, Porsche’s rental and sharing service will soon include two Taycan models through the Drive subscription program.

Options and Pricing

The Taycan 4S is the only model currently available and can only be rented through Drive’s single-vehicle subscription. Porsche has confirmed that the Taycan 4S will be available on the multi-vehicle subscription alongside the rear-wheel drive Taycan later this spring.

Pricing for the Taycan 4S rentals starts at $335 for 1-3 days, which then drops to $295 per day after the initial 3-day rental period. There are special pricing plans available which allows you to rent a Taycan 4s for an entire month for only $3 250 which equates to a 20% hike over a comparable 2-year lease. For new members to Porsche Passport there is a once-off $595 activation fee.

Porsche Passport Expansion

Back when we first reported on Porsche Passport in December of 2018, it was launched as a pilot program only available in Atlanta. The success of the platform has prompted Porsche Cars North America to expand the program, which is now available in eight cities, with expansion to more cities planned.

Porsche Passport is now available in Atlanta, Houston, Phoenix, Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Jose, San Diego, Monterey and Irvine, California.

Benefits of Porsche Passport

Porsche Passport and Drive were never intended to replace the Porsche ownership experience. President and CEO of Porsche Cars North America, Kjell Gruner, has described Porsche Drive as a “sports car-as-a-service, a convenient digital way to access the Porsche experience.” Drive has always been aimed at bringing the Porsche brand to non-Porsche owners, and to give current Porsche owners the flexibility to choose an additional vehicle to suit their needs.

For example, you could buy a 911, but rent Panamera or Cayenne when your in-laws are in town. Alternatively, if you own a family friendly Porsche, and wish to experience the exhilaration of driving a topless sports car down the beach, you have the ability to rent a Boxster or 911. Porsche Drive puts the flexibility in your hand.

Non-Porsche owners have been taking advantage of Porsche drive too, with many people using drive as an extended test drive, to see how a certain model fits into their lifestyles, before committing to a purchase or lease. This is backed by Gruners’ statement that, “In three years of testing and growing the concept, together with our dealers, we have created a solution for people who prefer shorter-term and more flexible access. The fact that 80 percent of Drive customers are new to Porsche is a mark of the program’s success.”
