Introducing Porsche Hangout Tools: Free VIN Decoder, Production Numbers & More
We are excited to launch a brand new section on Porsche Hangout: Porsche Tools — a collection of free, interactive tools built specifically for Porsche enthusiasts.
Whether you are researching a potential purchase, curious about your own car, or just love digging into Porsche details, these tools are for you.
Porsche VIN Decoder
Our free Porsche VIN Decoder lets you enter any 17-character Porsche VIN and instantly get detailed information about the vehicle. It pulls data from the official NHTSA database and adds Porsche-specific VIN position decoding that you will not find on generic VIN lookup sites.
You will see:
- Model, year, trim, and body style
- Engine specs including displacement, cylinders, and horsepower
- Drivetrain and transmission details
- Assembly plant location
- A full Porsche VIN position breakdown showing what each character in your VIN means
The tool works for all Porsche models and includes corrections for known NHTSA data inaccuracies — for example, it correctly identifies the 991.1 Turbo as a 3.8L engine rather than the 3.6L that NHTSA reports.
Porsche Production Numbers
Ever wondered how rare your Porsche really is? Our Production Numbers lookup tool covers every Porsche model from the original 356 all the way through the Taycan.
Select your model and optionally filter by year to see:
- Total production numbers by variant
- Year-by-year production breakdown
- Rarity rating from Common to Very Rare
- Interesting notes about each model and generation
Did you know only 337 Porsche 959s were ever made? Or that the 968 Turbo S is limited to just 14 units? These are the kinds of details our production numbers database reveals.
Porsche Model Comparison
Our newest tool lets you compare any two Porsche models side-by-side with detailed specs. See engine, performance, dimensions, weight, pricing, and more in an easy-to-read comparison table that highlights the winner in each category.
Perfect for deciding between models or seeing how the 911 has evolved across generations.
Porsche Option Code Decoder
Our latest tool decodes the build sticker that came with your Porsche. Every Porsche leaves the factory with a list of M-codes (and sometimes X-codes) recording exactly how the car was specified — the limited-slip differential, the Sport Chrono Package, PCCB ceramic brakes, the X51 Power Kit, sport exhaust, plus every interior trim and option detail.
Use the Porsche Option Code Decoder to:
- Paste your full code list from the build sticker to decode every option at once
- Look up any single M-code or X-code instantly
- See which factory options are performance-related or rare
- Verify factory spec vs aftermarket modifications on a used Porsche
180+ codes documented across all modern Porsches — 911, 718, Cayenne, Macan, Panamera, and Taycan. Use it alongside the VIN Decoder for a complete picture of any Porsche’s factory configuration.

This is just the beginning. We have more Porsche tools in development and would love to hear what you would find useful. Visit the Porsche Tools section to try them out and let us know what you think on our Facebook page.
