About Porsche Hangout

Porsche Hangout was founded in 2014 to give Porsche owners free, well-built tools they can actually use — VIN decoders, option code lookups, production-number references, model comparisons, and the kind of model-specific knowledge owners look for after the dealership stops returning their calls.

Twelve years on, the site has evolved from a Porsche-news blog into a tools-first resource for the community. Every tool you see here exists because Porsche owners (myself included) needed it and couldn’t find a good free version anywhere else.

About Ian G

I’m Ian G, the founder of Porsche Hangout and currently President of the Porsche Club of America — Gold Coast Region for the 2025/26 term. I’ve been a PCA member since 2013 and a Porsche enthusiast since childhood.

My daily reminder of why I do this: a 2011 997.2 Turbo S, the white one you see on the homepage. She’s been my main driver, track day partner, and reason for many of the tools on this site (the Option Code Decoder began because I wanted to know what every M-code on her build sticker meant).

Why this site exists

Porsche owners are spoiled for community — the forums (Rennlist, Pelican Parts, the model-specific registries) are deep and full of expertise. But finding a clean, fast, free tool to do a specific lookup — without ads stacked above the fold, without a paywall, without a signup — has always been harder than it should be. That’s the gap Porsche Hangout fills.

Every tool on the site is built to one rule: type a thing, get an answer, no friction.

What you’ll find here

More tools are in the works. If you’ve got a specific lookup that doesn’t have a good free home anywhere else, get in touch via the Porsche Hangout Facebook page — that’s where the community lives and where I take requests.
